The Medium
Within
Chapter 1
MEDIUMSHIP
It is my hope
that this book will help you to understand the workings of
Mediumship, and that each of you can redevelop the skills that
have been dormant for many years, and reopen your communication
with your loved ones on the other side.
As we redevelop
the Mediumistic part of ourselves, our Spirit Guides will be
there with us every step of the way, and we should use them
whenever we are moved to do so.
I always tell my
students, if they are asked to serve at churches or other
functions, never say "no" if at all possible. They are
advised to call upon their Spirit Guides and go for it!
Remember. It is
your love for the work and the people that you meet, which will
allow spirit to help you do the work in a professional manner.
If you keep saying no, your guides and helpers will feel that
you truly do not want to do the work, and will in time, just
back away and leave you alone.
The very first
thing I want to confess to you is that I came into this work
kicking and challenging every word of my teacher and the books
that I read. I did not want to believe in this, let alone do the
work.
Coming from a
Catholic background it was hard to accept the fact that anyone
or, even that I, could communicate with the so-called dead.
Several years later - I did just that. As a professional I can
see the reality of it, and I am glad that I stuck it out, and
that my teacher stayed with me in the process of rounding out my
knowledge of a new concept.
Let me first say
that Mediumship allows more than just a glimpse of the spirit
world, it opens up the door a lot wider than one thinks. Seeing
into this unexplored dimension from which we came allows us to
see how the spirit world operates, opening ones eyes to its
beauty.
As a Medium, you
are able to reach out and help so many in need that are still
trying to get their lives together. In my twenty or so years as
a Medium, I touched so many people who would otherwise still be
struggling with the world around them.
I give all the
credit to my Spirit Guides, one of whom is Gladys. The good work
she has done is helping many individuals gain a better
understanding of themselves and helping them to find the correct
path to travel. My position with the spirit world is one of a
receiver relaying its message to the world.
Unfortunately,
many Mediums take full credit for helping people and neglect
crediting their spirits who guided them. The Spirit Helpers,
with their loving devotion and concern, try to make us
understand they are here to help us give information from them
basic to those on the level at which we live. They are the ones
that need more than a "thanks." Again, Mediums are
just a vehicle acting as a receiving station for spirits to
spread their warm influence.
Now that you have
a general idea of Mediumship, what is the exact definition of a
Medium?
Though there are
hundreds of definitions that try to explain what does and does
not constitute a Medium, there is only one definition that I
think has the best grasp of the concept.
A Medium is a
receiver, it is much like a radio, and you turn to the station
that you want. That is what a Medium does - he or she tunes into
the right frequency and tunes into his or her Spirit Guide.
You have to
remember that there is a great deal of spirits out there who
want to let you know that they are there. Receiving information
from Spirit, the Medium must try to re-transmit it as that
spirit wants it to be told, in a clear and concise manner so
that the person that the Medium is reading for will understand
the message.
A reading is made
up of conversations between the Medium and the spirit on behalf
of the one sitting for the reading. In the past it was called a
séance.
Like everything
else in the world, some Mediums are better than others and the
quality of the reading depends upon the ability of the Medium to
connect with their Spirit Guides and the attitude of the one
being read for, along with the Medium’s harmony of balance
with his or her guides.
There are times,
though, fortunately not too many, when a client will come in for
a reading with the intent of blocking the reading, and it is the
task of the Medium to over-ride that intent and proceed with the
reading.
So far I have
only experienced that twice, and I have had to stop the
readings. Similar problems may also come from the other side.
One time I recall reading for a lady, and her husband, from the
other side, came through in an attempt to take over the reading.
Upon stopping the reading I started again and told the Spirit to
"back off", which he eventually did. The reading then
went smoothly and his wife became a client of mine for a number
of years.
The job of the
Medium is thus not only to give a clear and concise reading, but
to maintain control of both the client’s intent and that of
the spirit that is coming through at the time. Being a receiver
is like reading a book on a topic that you choose, but reading
it with the thoughts that the author wanted to relay in each
chapter.
That is the way the Medium
operates on behalf of the spirit that is giving the message. It
can be difficult at times to relay the information correctly as
it comes through from the other side. It takes a lot of time and
training to get yourself to that juncture at which the reading
will be satisfactory to the one for whom you are reading. You
maintain a balance between all three: the Spirit Guide, the
Medium, and the one being read for.
